A new study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggests that erectile dysfunction drugs may have serious health risks.
The findings come from a study of nearly 200,000 men at risk for erectile dysfunction (ED), which is characterized by a persistent inability to achieve or maintain a satisfactory erection. A large proportion of the men were prescribed drugs that affect blood flow, including sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis) and vardenafil (Levitra).
The researchers conducted a review of medical records of a population of nearly 1,400 men from the United States who developed ED between 1995 and 2015. They examined data on prescriptions and other drugs that may have increased sexual activity among men who had been prescribed these drugs.
In the study, they found that prescriptions of the drugs, which include sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil and vardenafil, were associated with an increased risk of ED, especially among men who had used these drugs regularly for many years. In the study, ED was the leading cause of death in men who had used these drugs. The researchers concluded that erectile dysfunction drugs should not be used routinely.
The findings were published May 30 in the.
In this study, the researchers reviewed medical records of nearly 1,400 men who were diagnosed with ED between 1995 and 2016. They found that they were prescribed a large number of drugs, including sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil and vardenafil, as well as other drugs that affect blood flow, including nitrates (commonly prescribed for chest pain) and alpha-blockers (commonly prescribed for erectile dysfunction).
The researchers also found that men who had used drugs that caused ED for many years had a 15% higher risk of developing erectile dysfunction compared to men who did not use drugs. The drugs were also associated with a 20% increased risk of developing erectile dysfunction among men who had used drugs for more than four years.
The researchers said that the study was not designed to identify men who had erectile dysfunction at baseline, but rather to assess the overall incidence in these men. The study found that the use of erectile dysfunction drugs was associated with a 13% increased risk of ED.
The researchers also said that the findings were consistent with what other studies have found, but that the researchers were still unsure if the drugs are safe.
“The results from this study suggest that the drugs used to treat ED are safe and well-tolerated,” the researchers wrote in the statement. “The results from this study suggest that ED is a significant public health concern that is likely to continue.”
The study was published on May 30 in The Journal of the American Medical Association.
The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The National Institute of Mental Health is a division of the National Institutes of Health. It provides the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with an online platform for researchers to publish scientific papers and to access, from their website, the results of large-scale clinical trials. NIH is an agency of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, and has contracted with national organizations for the health of the public.
The researchers did not conduct the full analysis of their medical records, but did note that the researchers reviewed the information in the form of a report, and that they also looked at other health information, including the results of clinical trial data, and other sources of information.
“This is an important study that may provide some useful information to physicians,” said David W. Gerstein of the National Institutes of Health, who led the study.
“We believe that it is important to examine the relationship between ED and other health issues, and that is what we are examining. We are interested in knowing if these drugs may have serious health risks.
“In addition, we are concerned about the potential for sexual side effects, such as erectile dysfunction and pulmonary embolism, which are potentially serious.”
According to the authors, the results of the study are important because “there is a significant increased risk of pulmonary embolism among men who have used drugs for a variety of reasons, including a recent heart attack, stroke, or coronary artery disease.
